Ada Lovelace

1815–1852 · London

Her 1843 notes on Babbage’s Analytical Engine include a method for computing Bernoulli numbers, often called the first computer program.

She was the daughter of the poet Lord Byron, and imagined machines that could compose music.

Largely self-taught, he turned logic into algebra in The Laws of Thought (1854).

Every digital circuit runs on his true-and-false arithmetic. He was the first professor of mathematics at Queen’s College, Cork.
