Pythagoras

c. 570–c. 495 BCE · Samos

The theorem named after him was known earlier in India and Babylon.

His followers are said to have studied musical harmony as ratios of whole numbers.

Bernhard Riemann

His 1859 paper on prime numbers, about eight pages long, states the Riemann Hypothesis. It is still unproved.

His geometry of curved space later became the language of Einstein’s general relativity.
